The Physics Department Federal University Kashere is one of the pioneer Departments in the Faculty of Science Federal University, Kashere, Gombe State. The Department teaches and pursues research over a wide range of topics starting from the abstract and fundamental to the practical and applied. The main focus of the Department is studies in pure Physics as this plays an important role at the fundamental range for exploitation of new discoveries. The social and commercial needs of the most up to date advances in Physics must be matched by the applied physics, a process capable of opening up new academic fields and also generating new industries.


The philosophy of the Department is Physics for national empowerment and sustainable development.


The objectives of the Physics Department are to develop an undergraduate programme tailored towards:

  •  Exposing the graduate of physics to the employment opportunities within and outside the country.
  •  To develop a creative thinking and power of imagination in students so as to carry out further research work in order to solve societal problems.
  •  To allow the graduate of physics fit into the interdisciplinary environment in the country and elsewhere.
  • Contributing to development of Northeast Nigeria, the nation and sub- Saharan Africa through the development of an expansion programmes aimed at training and research tailored towards the needs of these areas.
  •  Provide extension and community-based services, such as project development, consultancy to government agencies, etc in the Northeast zone and the nation at large.
  •  Developing a programme that involves both staff and students in identifying and solving problems of our local and national communities.
  •  To develop in students through an education in physics a range of transferable skills of values in physics and other areas.
  •  To involve the students in intellectually stimulating and satisfying experience of learning and studying.
  •  To develop in students the ability to apply their knowledge and skills in physics to the solution of theoretical and practical problems.


The vision of the Department of Physics is to have the facilities, well trained staff (Academic and Technical) and up to date equipment so as to produce well trained students with diversification in learning, applicable to the immediate needs of the local, national and global communities.
