PROFESSOR S. L. KELA

(Deputy Vice-Chancellor)

Professor S.L. Kela, is the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (DVC), Federal University, Kashere (FUK).His appointment as the DVC, Federal University Kashere was confirmed at the 4th Regular Meeting of the University Governing Council due to the following sterling qualities he exhibited in the discharge of his duties: dedication, hard work, commitment, honesty and above all selfless service.

Professor Kela hails from Billiri Local Government of Gombe State and was born on the 29th of December, 1956.

After his early Education at Tanglang Sudan Interior Mission Primary School from 1966 to 1972 and Sudan Interior Mission later changed to Government Secondary School from 1972 to 1977, all in T/Waja Native Authority Gombe State, Nigeria.

He further proceeded to the  prestigious University of Jos, Plateau state, Nigeria from 1977 to 1982 were he obtained B.Sc (Hons) in Zoology; Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, Nigeria from 1985 to 1988 where he obtained his M.Sc. in veterinary parasitolosy in 1988.

In his determination to get to the peak of his career and further academic pursuit Professor Kela, embarked on a voyage of discovery outside the shores of Nigeria to the University of Wales, Cardiff, United Kingdom in January from 1994 to December, 1994 for part of his Ph.D. Bench work before returning to Nigeria to continue in Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria in total fulfillment of his Ph.D. degree from 1990 to 2000.

Prof. Kela has two (2) special courses accredited to him, these were: certificate in Microsoft Office XP and internet skills an ICT Course by the Professor Iya Abubakar Community Resource Centre from March April, 2009 and a certificate of Attendance in a Senior Management Course organized by the National Universities Commission (NUC), in September, 2004.

As a dynamic and erudite scholar, Prof. Kela had also held several responsibilities among whom were; the present DVC, of the University; out-gone Director, Academic Planning from inception to 3rd September, 2o16; Director, Gombe study centre of the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), a position he held from 2011 till date; Deputy Vice Chancellor Administration, ATBU, Bauchi from 2003 to 2007

Chairman, Junior Staff Disciplinary Committee, ATBU, Bauchi from 2003 to 2007; Chairman, Senior Staff Disciplinary Committee, Bauchi from 2009 till date; Chairman Student’s welfare Board, ATBU, Bauchi from 2003 to 2007; Chairman ATBU, Staff primary School Management Board from 2003 to 2007; Chairman, ATBU, International Secondary School Management Board from 2003 to 2006; Coordinator, Biological Sciences Programme, ATBU, Bauchi, from 2001 to 2003, Ag. Foundation Dean, School of Management Technology, ATBU, Bauchi from 2000 to 2001 and Ag. Director, Remedial and General Studies Directorate, ATBU, Bauchi from 1997 to 2000 and a host of responsibilities he is currently discharging in Federal University, Kashere.

It may also interest you to know that Prof. S. L. Kela, in his quest to spread knowledge and share acquired experience underwent a one year Sabbatical at the University of Abuja, in the Department of Biological Sciences.

Professor S.L.Kela is professor of Biological Sciences from the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, Bauchi as well as a one-time DVC of ATBU, Bauchi. This is an indication that, he is a man with vast knowledge in University administration.

He has contributed, co-authored and published several Journals, articles and books. Prof. S. L. Kela has received several special awards, Honors and appointments. These Awards/Honors include: ATBU Bauchi long Service/Merit Award, in 2008; Students’ Union Government, ATBU, Bauchi, Award, 2006; Royal Chemical Society Award for the Best Published Research Article on plant Mollucicides in 1994, Tangale Community, Bauchi Award for Up-lifting the Standard of Education in Tangale Land, 200; Tangale Students Union, ATBU Bauchi, Chapter Award in 2001 and a commendation by the Vice Chancellor, ATBU, Bauchi on behalf of the University Governing Council for dedication and commitment that led to the success of the joint 8th and 9th convocation of the University Prof. S.
