Brief History of the Department

The Programme is one of the pioneer Programmes of the University which started with the takeoff of the University in 2010/2011 Session. It stated with ten (10) teaching staff and two (2) non teaching. Presently the department has thirteen (13) permanent academic staff and four (4) visiting senior academic staff.  At the initial stage, there were eighteen (18) students in just 100 level but currently there are one hundred and six (106) from 100 level to 400 levels. In 2014, the department was equipped with an econometric laboratory to furnish the students with model Electronic Data Processing packages in econometrics analysis.


Philosophy

The philosophy of the Department guiding the selection and training of students into Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) Degree in Economics and Development Studies is primarily the desire to produce Economists of international standard that will make a positive impact on socio-economic development of Nigeria. It is also meant to produce graduates with high professional and ethical standards that will enhance accountability in the management and development of the Nigerian economy, Africa and the World at large.


Vision

The philosophy guiding the selection and training of Students into B.Sc. Economics and Development Studies is primarily the desire to produce Economists of International Standard that will make a positive impact on the Socio-economic development of Nigeria. It is also meant to produce graduates with high professional and ethical standard that will enhance accountability in the management and development of the Nigerian economy.


Mission

The mission of the Department of Economics and Development Studies is to contribute to the development efforts of Nigeria, Africa and the World at large by producing selfless graduates with high entrepreneurial skills, patriotism and enthusiasm to make their contribution to both public and private sectors of the economy.
